Project Motor Racing — Full breakdown of update 2.0.0.2
Project Motor Racing — Full breakdown of update 2.0.0.2
The Project Motor Racing development team has released version 2.0.0.2, an update primarily focused on overall stability, performance improvements, and a comprehensive rework of AI opponent behaviour. On top of that, the patch continues the evolution of the throttle response model introduced in the previous update, now expanded to cover more car classes.
Physics and handling: throttle response takes centre stage
One of the most significant elements of this update is the refinement of the throttle response model — the system that simulates how the engine reacts to accelerator input. This technology, which debuted in the previous patch, is now applied to a wider range of vehicles, making on-track driving more realistic and engaging than ever before.
As for custom setups downloaded from the ModHub, a long-awaited bug fix now ensures that gear ratios load correctly — something the community had been requesting for some time.
Looking at individual car classes in detail:
The Mazda MX-5 Trophy sees fully reworked AI opponents, with improvements to both on-track behaviour and simulated physics, along with a general rebalancing of AI performance. A typo in the setup menu has also been corrected.
The Porsche 992 Trophy receives improved throttle response, a taller default final drive ratio following community feedback, and a completely new default setup.
N-GT class cars also benefit from an optimised throttle response.
The Ford Falcon V8 in the AUS-v8 category gets a revised AI behaviour, rebalanced performance to match changes made to the player car, and data brought closer to real-world figures. This class also receives the new throttle response model.
GT3 cars round out the physics section with updated AI behaviour, physics simulation improvements, and performance rebalancing.
Vehicle and environment art: details and visual fixes
Several vehicle models have received aesthetic updates and visual effect corrections. The BMW M3 GTR (E46) fixes a wheel blur effect issue and improves driver hand positions and animations. The BMW M4 GT3 EVO and M4 GT4 EVO (G82) get improved lighting textures, wheel blur corrections, and better Ambient Occlusion. The same treatment applies to the Nissan Z GT4, the Panoz LMP-1 Roadster S, and the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. The Lamborghini Murciélago R-GT addresses only the wheel blur issue. The Nissan Motul Autech GT-R GT500 receives an updated livery design and new UI thumbnail.
On the environment side, rain visual effects have been improved. Daytona International Speedway and Takimiya Circuit receive stability and performance optimisations. At Northampton, a bug preventing the pit crew from spawning when the player entered the pit lane at too wide an angle has been fixed.
AI opponents: a thorough overhaul
The AI opponents section is among the most substantial parts of this patch. Overall race speed and pace have been rebalanced. High-speed cornering prediction has been improved, reducing instances where AI cars appeared to brake at random. Pit lane speeds are now more reasonable across all circuits.
Racing lines have been reworked or improved at Derby GP, San Marino, and Brianza. At Kyalami, pit entry and exit behaviour has been corrected. Daytona International Speedway has received a full rework of both racing and pit lines.
On the strategy side: fuel safety margins have been optimised, with randomised fuel levels between 60% and 100% in situations where tank capacity is not sufficient to reach the end of the race. AI is now capable of reacting to weather changes to decide when to pit for tyre changes. The brake damage threshold for disc replacement has been raised from 30% to 90%, and a bug causing constant pit stops due to damaged brakes has finally been fixed. Collisions between opponents are now disabled once the player crosses the finish line, and behaviour under blue flag conditions has been improved.
Force Feedback and input
The default FFB Gain value has been reduced from 0.8 to 0.7 to prevent signal clipping — an important change for users with high-torque wheels. A bug that caused FFB detail and boost values to be overwritten when loading configuration files has also been resolved.
Gameplay, UI and more
Localisation issues in German and Russian have been fixed. A crash in the hybrid car setup menu has been corrected. UDP telemetry data for sector times now reports correctly. Opponents in the pits no longer appear in the Radar System. The emblem for the "964 Trophy" class has been updated.
On consoles, master volume now correctly applies to intro cinematics, and the "Reset All" option in settings works again as expected.
Online, stability and performance have been further improved. Crashes during session transitions and in the Custom Lobby menu have been addressed. Lobby hosts can now change the maximum player count after creating the lobby. Lobbies with an in-progress session or those already at maximum capacity are now displayed by default in the lobby list.
Conclusion
Project Motor Racing update 2.0.0.2 demonstrates the development team's continued commitment to refining the simulation experience. The expanded throttle response model, the thorough AI overhaul, and the wide range of fixes across every aspect of the game make this a meaningful step towards an ever more authentic and stable racing simulator.
