Forza Horizon 6 Confirmed for 2026 Launch: Will Be Set in Japan, PS5 Version to Follow
The worst-kept secret in the racing game world has finally been unveiled: Forza Horizon 6 is coming in 2026 and will be set in Japan.
What was considered the very worst-kept secret in all of the racing game sphere has now emerged into the public domain. In what appears to have been a time zone error, one of the game's official social media channels prematurely revealed the news with a 15-second trailer posted to Instagram - subsequently removed - ahead of the expected reveal at the Tokyo Games Show.
Official Announcement at Tokyo Games Show
As expected, the game was officially announced at TGS, with a longer version of the same video now available. The short footage is packed with significant details, starting with some props and references to Forza Horizon 5's Mexico setting. After panning across some license plates from Europe - referencing FH2 - we begin to see a lot of Japanese imagery before the camera tilts up to reveal a view of Japan's most famous volcano: Mount Fuji.
Confirmed Details
The video officially confirms that the game will be titled Forza Horizon 6 and is coming in 2026, while the post's text states: "The Horizon Festival is heading to Japan."
Naturally, this only confirms the setting and the broad strokes of when the game will be available. There's no precise information on the launch date - though a late-year release is assumed - nor on any specific content or features.
Launch Platforms
It has been confirmed that the game will launch on Xbox Series consoles and PC, with a PS5 version to follow "post-launch." This is significant news for PlayStation owners, who will finally be able to access the Forza Horizon franchise.
The Map and Locations
Previous Horizon games have used stylized and fictional versions of real locations, with an approximate layout and landmarks from the relevant areas to provide a quick way to sample the setting on a compressed basis. While we expect this approach to carry over into FH6, we don't yet have any specific details, nor information about the map size itself.
Tokyo has been confirmed as a location for the game, while forum users have noted that the location shown in the trailer is Fujikawaguchiko, overlooking Lake Kawaguchi. This location offers one of the most iconic views of Mount Fuji and is an extremely popular tourist destination in Japan.
What to Expect
The Forza Horizon series is known for delivering an arcade driving experience with breathtaking landscapes and a vast selection of vehicles. The Japanese setting promises:
- Iconic landscapes: From Mount Fuji to Tokyo's streets, through traditional towns and mountains
- Japanese automotive culture: A perfect opportunity to celebrate legendary Japanese automakers
- Environmental variety: From modern metropolises to traditional temples, from mountain circuits to urban highways
Future Prospects
There's still much to discover about the game, and more details about features, content, vehicle roster, and game modes will certainly emerge in the coming months. The fan community is already buzzing about this highly requested setting, which represents one of the most desired locations by players in recent years.
2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for racing game enthusiasts, with Forza Horizon 6 finally bringing the traveling festival to the Land of the Rising Sun.
