Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II: The Legend Arrives in Assetto Corsa EVO
A DTM Icon Arrives in the Virtual World
Kunos Simulazioni and 505 Games have officially announced the arrival of the iconic Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II in the upcoming Release 3 update for Assetto Corsa EVO. This legendary vehicle joins an impressive roster of new content that includes 8 new cars and 2 new circuits.
The arrival of the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II represents a significant moment for racing simulation enthusiasts. This car joins other models already announced for Release 3, including the Ferrari F2004 Formula 1, BMW M4 GT3 EVO, the iconic BMW M3 E30, Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, Dallara Stradale, and Audi RS 6 Avant.
History of a Motorsport Legend
The Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II is not simply a sports car: it's one of the most iconic "homologation specials" ever produced in automotive history. Its creation was dictated by the need to allow Mercedes-Benz to compete in the prestigious German Touring Car Championship (DTM).
In 1990, Mercedes produced exactly 502 units to satisfy the strict DTM regulations, which required manufacturers to produce a minimum number of road-legal versions of their race cars to obtain homologation. This strategy proved successful: the AMG-Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo II completely dominated the 1992 DTM season.
Technical Specifications of a Masterpiece
The beating heart of the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II consisted of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine developed in collaboration with the renowned Cosworth. The car was equipped with the famous "AMG PowerPack," a technical package that included a unique throttle body, modified intake system, specific camshafts, and an improved ECU.
This configuration allowed the engine to produce 232 horsepower at 7,200 rpm and 181 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. All this power was transferred to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission with close ratios and "dog-leg" configuration, a characteristic that made it particularly suitable for track use.
Impact in the Simulation World
The inclusion of the Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II in Assetto Corsa EVO represents a unique opportunity for players to experience one of the most significant cars in German motorsport history. Kunos Simulazioni's precision in simulation will guarantee an authentic driving experience, allowing players to understand the unique characteristics that made this car so dominant in DTM.
Assetto Corsa EVO is currently available in Early Access on Steam for €39.99, offering enthusiasts the chance to preview this evolution of the celebrated driving simulator.
