PXN Announces Three All-New Direct Drive VD Series Sim Racing Wheels
PXN Announces Three All-New Direct Drive VD Series Sim Racing Wheels
Chinese budget-friendly sim racing equipment manufacturer expands range with more advanced solutions
PXN, a Chinese company specializing in affordable sim racing equipment and best known for its sub-$300 wheels, has recently announced the launch of three new direct drive wheels that represent a significant step forward in its market offering.
The New VD Series: A Quality Leap
Following the success of its first direct drive venture with the affordable V99 bundle and the V12 base (sold for just under £200 on Amazon UK), PXN now presents the VD4, VD6, and VD10 models, marking a clear evolution toward higher market segments.
The heart of these new products is PXN's new Multi-Pole Low Inertia Direct Drive Servo Motor - quite a mouthful that we might abbreviate as MPLIDDSM. This technology promises to address some of the issues found in previous models, particularly the slow response times that characterized the V99.
Technical Specifications and Performance
The Chinese company guarantees lag-free feedback and cog-free performance. The latter characteristic is particularly important in the sim racing world and is a feature that established manufacturers like Thrustmaster and Simagic have recently implemented in their wheels, using high-pole brushless motors to reduce irregular behavior at low speeds.
The power specifications for the three models are as follows:
- VD4: 4Nm constant with 5Nm peaks
- VD6: 6Nm constant with 7Nm peaks
- VD10: 10Nm constant with 12Nm peaks
It's interesting to note how the nomenclature doesn't exactly correspond to peak power but rather to constant power, which represents a more honest approach in communicating actual performance.
Software and Additional Features
PXN has developed a dedicated PC software suite called "PC Control Center PXN SimRacing," which allows users to customize and optimize their driving experience. Additionally, the new wheels include a system that amplifies car behavior through subtle vibrations, a technology that closely resembles Logitech's Trueforce system.
Compatibility and Limitations
Currently, all three models are compatible exclusively with PC. PXN has not yet managed to obtain the necessary certifications from Microsoft (Xbox) or Sony (PlayStation), although some of its existing models work on select consoles by connecting a gamepad directly to the base. The company has not yet confirmed whether this functionality will be available for the new VD series models.
Wheels and Accessories
To accompany the new bases, PXN has developed three interchangeable wheel designs:
- W AS Steering Wheel: 280mm diameter, round shape
- W DS R2 Steering Wheel: 300mm diameter, with flat bottom
- W CS R2 Steering Wheel: 330mm diameter, round shape with carbon fiber paddles
All wheels feature a variety of buttons, shift lights, and rotary controls. The W CS R2 model stands out for its carbon fiber shift paddles, while the other two use aluminum alloys.
PD HM Pedal Set
Completing the offering is the three-pedal PD HM set, constructed entirely of metal and equipped with Hall-effect magnetic sensors, theoretically more durable over time. The brake pedal supports up to 10kg of damping force, although it doesn't use load cells.
Pricing and Availability
Pre-orders are already available directly from the PXN website, with sales officially beginning on August 8th, 2025. Here are the prices for the UK and USA markets:
Bases and Bundles:
- VD4 complete bundle (base + W AS wheel + PD HM brake and throttle pedals): $299
- VD6 Wheel Base: £299 / $329
- VD10 Wheel Base: £349 / $369
Wheels:
- W AS Steering Wheel: £119 / $139
- W DS R2 Steering Wheel: £159 / $199
- W CS R2 Steering Wheel: £249 / $279
Accessories:
- PD HM Pedals: £89 / $99
Complete Bundles:
- VD6 bundle (base + W DS R2 wheel + complete PD HM pedals + desk clamp): £432 / $439
- VD10 base + W DS R2 wheel: £432 / $499
- VD10 base + W CS R2 wheel: £483 / $539
Conclusions
With the launch of the VD series, PXN demonstrates its ambition to compete in higher market segments while maintaining competitive prices that could make direct drive technology accessible to a broader audience of sim racing enthusiasts. The success of these products will depend on the company's ability to deliver on its promises in terms of quality and performance, overcoming the limitations found in previous models.
