Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO: Unveiled at the 24 Hours of Spa, Maranello’s New Weapon
Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO: Unveiled at the 24 Hours of Spa, Maranello’s New Weapon
During the 2025 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps weekend, Ferrari revealed the much-anticipated 296 GT3 EVO, an evolution of the already successful 296 GT3. The Belgian event, considered one of the most prestigious stages in global GT racing, provided the perfect setting for the debut of this car, which will officially compete from the 2026 season. Main Updates: Aerodynamics, Setup, and Reliability The 296 GT3 EVO was designed to strengthen the weak points of the first-generation model, while preserving the technical identity that brought it success. Ferrari engineers focused on three key areas: Under the hood is still the 3.0-liter 120° twin-turbo V6 derived from the road-going version, without hybrid support (as per GT3 regulations), now further optimized for a broader torque curve. Design and Livery: Evolution, Not Revolution The EVO is visually distinguished by its new front splitter, redesigned air intakes, and a more aggressive rear diffuser. The livery showcased at Spa features Ferrari GT's official team colors, with gold and black accents highlighting its exclusive character. Will We See the Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO in Sim Racing Games? The short answer is yes, but the timing will vary depending on the title: Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC) Developed by Kunos Simulazioni and fully focused on GT3/GT4 racing, ACC is the most obvious candidate. However: iRacing With Ferrari already licensed and a solid GT3 base, the EVO could arrive in 2026 if an official partnership is established. iRacing typically adds cars only after official FIA homologation and direct 3D scanning. rFactor 2 / Le Mans Ultimate Availability depends on deals with teams and manufacturers. rFactor 2 might see an unofficial mod version first, while an official release could take longer depending on WEC involvement. Assetto Corsa EVO (AC2) Slated for a 2025 release, AC EVO could include it on launch or shortly after, especially given Kunos’ close ties with Ferrari. This is the most promising route for quick and faithful implementation. Conclusion The Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO is a natural evolution of Maranello's GT vision: pure performance, improved handling, and refined engineering. As for sim racing, the car has everything it needs to become a virtual star, though we’ll likely have to wait until 2026 for a fully accurate version — unless modders beat everyone to it.
