A Continuously Evolving Ecosystem
A Continuously Evolving Ecosystem
The world of sim racing is rapidly evolving, and Assetto Corsa EVO is positioning itself as one of the platforms with the greatest potential for transformation. What initially was conceived as an evolution of an established franchise is now transforming into a more ambitious ecosystem, characterized by innovative new features, a renewed focus on the community, and an expanded vision toward the future of virtual motorsport.
Multiplayer Arrives in July: A New Competitive Era
One of the most anticipated additions will be the multiplayer mode, making its debut in a major update scheduled for July 2025. This feature will include daily races in a format familiar to experienced sim racing enthusiasts.
However, it's important to note that in the initial phase, there will be no driver rating or safety systems, features that are planned for subsequent updates. The initial priority is to establish a solid foundation for online racing, with servers managed in partnership with a dedicated sim racing platform.
This strategic choice reflects Kunos Simulazioni's methodical approach, which prefers to focus on stability and quality of the base experience before adding more complex systems.
Version 1.0: Quality Before Deadlines
Although version 1.0 was initially planned for 2025, there is no longer a fixed release date. The roadmap has been revised to reflect necessary adjustments following recent technical advances and shifting priorities.
The direction is clear and unequivocal: quality and maturity come before deadlines. This approach demonstrates the development studio's maturity, which has chosen not to compromise the product's vision to meet arbitrary timelines.
While development currently focuses on EVO, Assetto Corsa Competizione remains on the roadmap. Although large-scale updates are not expected soon, new possibilities for the GT3-focused title are being explored.
A Dedicated Rally Simulator on the Horizon
One of the most intriguing ideas gaining traction is the concept of a standalone rally simulator. The reasoning is clear: rally racing demands distinct physics, from surface behavior to tire modeling.
Instead of adapting rally content into EVO, a completely separate product focused solely on rally is being considered. This decision could revolutionize how specialized simulators are developed.
While nothing is officially confirmed, EVO's modular tech infrastructure could provide the foundation for such a project. Its open map system and point-to-point stage creation tools make it technically feasible.
New Vehicles: Caterham Academy and Dallara Stradale
The vehicle roster is expanding with two key models representing different but complementary philosophies:
Caterham Academy: Offers extensive customization possibilities, representing the purest and lightest driving experience. This vehicle embodies the essence of traditional motorsport, where reduced weight and simple mechanics create an engaging driving experience.
Dallara Stradale: A track-focused machine also tested during recent events. It represents the modern evolution of automotive design, where advanced aerodynamics and sophisticated technologies combine for extreme performance.
Both represent the commitment to a diverse driving experience, from lightweight entry-level cars to track-bred performance models. These cars are expected to play a major role in upcoming daily race formats in multiplayer mode.
A Platform for the Future of Sim Racing
Assetto Corsa EVO is not just a sequel — it's a modular and evolving platform. The focus is on delivering a deep, customizable, and open-ended simulation with long-term support in mind.
Open Development Philosophy: The open development philosophy continues to be a key part of the vision. Users will be able to create their own cars, stages, and modifications using integrated modding tools. This includes the ability to design rally stages within EVO's open world, greatly expanding its potential beyond traditional circuits.
Challenges and Opportunities: Challenges remain, especially around VR performance, realistic damage modeling, and enhanced physical and visual immersion. But the course is set: to build a flexible, powerful simulator that grows with its community.
Conclusions: The Future of Sim Racing
Assetto Corsa EVO represents much more than a simple update to an established series. It's an ambitious vision that aims to redefine what it means to be a modern driving simulator, combining extreme physical realism with accessibility and unprecedented creative possibilities.
