The Black Angel Team: Sim Racing with a Touch of Style

In the world of sim racing, where competition is fierce, and driving skills are constantly put to the test, some teams stand out for their passion and dedication. Among them is the Black Angel Team, a group of enthusiasts that has built a solid reputation both in Italy and internationally.

What is Sim Racing?

Sim racing, or racing simulation, is much more than a video game. It is a discipline that faithfully replicates the driving experience, requiring skills, strategy, and a deep understanding of driving dynamics. Simulators like Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, and rFactor offer immersive simulations with accurately recreated tracks, weather conditions, and vehicles, making sim racing a true virtual sport.

An Endurance Racing Icon

The Lola T70 Mk3B GT is a name that immediately stirs emotions among motorsport enthusiasts. Designed in 1965 by Eric Broadley and built by Lola Cars, this vehicle represents the pinnacle of automotive engineering in the 1960s and '70s. With its sleek design, powerful V8 engine, and impressive track record, the T70 Mk3B GT became a symbol of the golden era of endurance racing.

Iconic Design

The T70 Mk3B GT features a low, curvaceous body made of lightweight aluminum, with a long nose, wide stance, and flowing roofline. These characteristics not only give it a distinctive appearance but were designed to minimize aerodynamic drag in an era when wind tunnels were rarely used. The monocoque chassis with integrated steel tubing ensures lightness and strength, while the front double wishbone and rear multi-link suspension provide exceptional handling.

Under the hood, the T70 Mk3B GT is equipped with a 5-liter Chevrolet small-block V8 engine, paired with a 5-speed Hewland gearbox. This powertrain delivers generous torque and impressive acceleration: 0 to 100 km/h in just 3 seconds, with a top speed exceeding 200 mph.

Dominance in Endurance Racing

The T70 Mk3B GT competed in legendary events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring, achieving 232 victories and 91 pole positions. In 1969, it secured a historic one-two finish at the 24 Hours of Daytona, with Mark Donohue behind the wheel. Despite competition from Porsche, Ferrari, and Ford, the T70 proved to be a formidable force in the racing scene.
